Greetings from Bishop of the Methodist Church in Singapore on ACS 139 Founders’ Day

Today is ACS 139 th Founder’ Day. And together with all the ACS family of schools we celebrate God’s goodness and faithfulness. We thank God for His love, leading and provision to our schools and are inspired by the sense of mission and purpose of our Founders.
On 1 March 1886, Reverend William Fitzjames Oldham started ACS in an old shophouse with just 13 students. In those days, very few children in Singapore had access to education and the chance to improve their lives. Looking at the many young boys on the streets, Oldham wanted to provide quality education for them.
ACS was founded to nurture students to be of service “for God and humanity”. In the years since then, we can look back and see that this purpose has been and continues to be fulfilled. Many who have walked through the doors of ACS have not only had their lives changed for the better but have also been given the tools and opportunities to make society a better place.
In many more years to come, we must keep in mind the words from John 15:1-8. This passage from the Bible speaks of the vine and the branches; and that we are to remain in Christ if we want to bear fruits. Verses 5 says, “I am the vine, you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit, apart from me you can do nothing.”
Hence, from this day forth, let us determine to remain in Christ. I pray too that each one of us may continue to stay close to Christ. And that through it we may bear much fruit.
To God be the Glory. The Best is Yet to Be!
