The Anglo-Chinese School Old Boys’ Association (ACSOBA) Golf Classic 2024 took place on Thursday, 22 February at the Laguna National Golf and Country Club. The biennial event began with a lively lunch which set the stage for the day’s camaraderie and friendly competition.

This spirited gathering was not just for the love of the game but a dedicated effort to support the ACSOBA Retired Teachers’ Fund, a testament to the lasting bonds and gratitude the ACS Family holds for our retired educators.

One hundred and eleven golfers from an impressive span of 32 cohorts, dating from 1967 to 2023, took their positions. Their drives and putts were backed by more than just skill; they were fueled by the legacy of their alma mater, undeterred by the occasional whispers of rain.

The fun on the green was followed by a dinner that encapsulated the ACS spirit. The event was graced by the presence of many retired teachers and distinguished guests, including three esteemed former principals: the late-Mr Lim Keng Boon from ACS Primary, Professor Lawrence Chia from ACS (Independent) and Mr Ng Eng Chin from ACS (Barker Road). The evening was imbued with a sense of nostalgia and respect, punctuated by the resonant singing of the school anthem, prize giveaways, and the fellowship of the ACS family.

This sequence of events – from the anticipatory lunch to the competitive zeal of the golf tournament and culminating in an evening of celebration and recognition – not only honored the tradition and spirit of ACS but also successfully raised over $54,000 for the ACSOBA Retired Teachers’ Fund. These funds will ultimately be used to conduct activities for our Retired Teachers and to financially support our retired teachers in need. It was a day that underscored the enduring impact that our educators leave on our students, marking the 2024 Golf Classic as a memorable event in 2024.
