ONE ACS Speaker Series

On March 23, 2023, the ACS OBA organised The ONE ACS Speaker Series, featuring a virtual Fire Side Chat on Entrepreneurship with two successful entrepreneurs, Frederick Yap and Karl Mak.

Frederick Yap, a serial entrepreneur with experience in fashion, retail, and food & beverage, is currently manufacturing textiles and apparel for leading fashion brands across Asia. Karl Mak is the Co-Founder and CEO of Hepmil Media Group, a Digital Media startup that owns and operates brands such as SGAG, MGAG, PGAG, Hepmil Creators’ Network, Hepmil Indonesia & Bent Pixels Asia.

The event was attended by ACSians, including aspiring entrepreneurs and those interested in learning about the experiences of these successful entrepreneurs. The discussion was moderated by Old Boys Andrew Kam and Ryan Jacob, who asked thought-provoking questions that prompted Yap and Mak to share their experiences and insights on entrepreneurship.

During the discussion, Yap and Mak shared their experiences and highlighted the challenges they faced along the way, including the personal and emotional toll of entrepreneurship. They also emphasised the importance of personal growth, resilience, team building, customer focus, adaptability, and staying up-to-date with emerging technologies.

Yap and Mak stressed the significance of having a clear purpose and vision for the business, building a strong culture and values, and being willing to pivot and adapt to changing market conditions. They also discussed the role of scalability and funding in evaluating new business ideas and the need to plan for succession in the long term.

Overall, the ACS OBA Fire Side Chat on Entrepreneurship was a great success, providing valuable insights and advice for aspiring entrepreneurs. The ACS OBA looks forward to organising more of these sessions in the future.
